The zoo is open every day of the year except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. 

There are 445 species at the zoo and 2,449 animals.  Learn all about the animals at the Minnesota Zoo! Explore the Zoo’s Minnesota Trail, Northern Trail, Tropics Trail, Discovery Bay, and the new Wells Fargo Family Farm on a virtual tour; then plan to come and spend the day with them.

Metronic Trail includes exciting exhibits for raccoons, coyotes and gray wolves, together with long-time residents like beaver, otter, puma and lynx. Smaller Minnesota favorites, like turtles, frogs and salamanders, are featured in the exhibit’s “trailhead,” a warm and welcoming lodge. Along the Trail, guests experience a variety of Minnesota landscapes, ranging from views into a beaver pond, a walk alongside a northern forest glade and a bird-watching perch in the treetops.

The Northern Trail showcases the cold, long winters of Minnesota with Amur tigers frolic in the snow or in their moat, depending on the season. Mexican wolves, woodland caribou and the stately moose display their ingenious adaptations for survival. A walk along the 3/4-mile trail provides the opportunity to enjoy the seasons, or, view the entire trail in climate-controlled comfort from the Monorail.

Tropics Trail has the world of the rain forest where lush, green foliage and beautiful orchids envelop guests along a winding path. Playful lemurs, inquisitive gibbons and agile tree kangaroos are just a few of the animals waiting to be discovered at each turn.

Discover Bay is awesome!  Over 1.1 million gallons of water provide a home for sharks, rays and other marine life. Guests can actually touch sharks, sea stars, and sea anemones in an interactive estuary and tide pool. The Atlantic bottlenose dolphins put on quite a show—literally! Learn about dolphins’ natural behaviors during the Digital River Dolphin Show held daily in our 800-seat Dolphin Stadium.

The objective of the Wells Fargo Family Farm is to create a place for Minnesota Zoo visitors to become part of a community of people, plants and animals striving to maintain balance with nature.
