There are 929 lakes in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and one river running through the cities.  The most well known and frequented lakes are Lake Calhoun, which has a pathway around the lake for skateboarding, walking or jogging and riding bike.  Then there is Lake Harriet with its band shell, beautiful Lyndale Park with its bird sanctuary, peace gardens and rose gardens. Lake of the Isles will enthrall you with its two wooded islands and in the winter enjoy ice skating and hockey. And take in the stately homes in the Kenwood, Lowry Hill and East Isles neighborhoods near the lake.  With both the Cedar Lake Trail and Kenilworth Trail connecting to it, Cedar is also immensely popular among residents. Its "Hidden Beach" is a prime area for swimming and sunbathing.

These are some of the lakes that will offer you an entertaining time while in the Twin Cities.

Whenever friends and family Visit Minnesota they want to “go to the lake.” I often find myself reminding them that some of the best lakes are right here in the Twin Cities. Thanks for the reminder!
