Some of the numerous events scheduled for the next month are:

• May 18, 2007 – Jon Stewart at The Orpheum Theatre
• May 19 , 2007 – Hank Williams, Jr. and Lynyrd Skynyrd at Target Center.
• May 20, 2007 – Minnesota Lynx vs. Sacramento at Target Center.
• May 25, 2007 – Minnesota Lynx vs. Chicago at Target Center.
• May 29, 2007 – Minnesota Lynx vs. Indiana at Target Center.
• May 31, 2007 – Daniel O’Donnell in Concert at Target Center.

The Hennepin Theatre District invites the public to see behind the scenes of various historic playhouses . On the last Monday of each month at 1 p.m., a walking tour is conducted of one playhouse. The public gets to visit the interior of the playhouse to see sites that are rarely viewed by visitors.

Each guided tour, which lasts approximately one hour, focuses on the stars who have played in each venue and the history of the buildings. Visitors learn how a theatrical production is put together from the point of view of an insider and also are shown the architectural details of these historic buildings.

The fee for each tour is $5 per person. Tour groups meet at the box office of the State Theatre on the last Monday of each month at 1 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance at this box office or through Ticketmaster Artsline at 612-673-0404 or online at www.ticketmaster.com .

The Minneapolis Warehouse District boasts three well known theatres: the Orpheum, the Pantages and the State. These theatres, which have a rich history dating back to vaudeville shows, now provide Broadway productions to theatre-goers in Minneapolis.

The Orpheum, originally known as the Hennepin, opened its doors in October 1921. The first playbill featured the Marx Brothers and some of the early acts featured Jack Benny, Burns and Allen and Fanny Brice with adult tickets selling for 47 cents and tickets for children selling at 9 cents.

Some of the plays scheduled for this fall are “The Wedding Singer” which is a romantic musical comedy – dates September 25 – September 30, 2007; the “Lion King”, a breathtaking spectacle of animals brought to life – dates October 22 – October 25, 2007 and “My Fair Lady”, the legendary musical by Lerner and Loew – dates February 20 – March 2, 2008 and the “Jersey Boys”, the 2006 Tony award winning Best Musical about the Four Seasons (Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi) and how this group of blue collar boys became one of the greatest success stories in pop music history – dates March 19 – April 20, 2008.
