The Children’s Theater Company - Minneapolis, Minnesota
If your child has ever expressed an interest in theater arts and you live in Minneapolis, you have the perfect opportunity to let them explore that interest. The Children’s Theater Company (CTC) can be found at 2400 Third Avenue South in Minneapolis. The Company was founded in 1965 and has become a premier children’s theater and cultural entertainment opportunity for area residents. They have received a number of prestigious awards including the National Governor’s Association Award and the 2003 Regional Theater Tony Award.
The Company offers theater arts training in acting, dance, singing and other types of theater arts to kids ages 4-18. Each year, over 800 young people get the opportunity to perform, and over 1200 area kids get the chance to take advantage of one of the many classes CTC offers. They present at least six productions each season, with plays for everyone from teens to pre-schoolers and their parents and everyone in between. Their productions offer something for everyone in the surrounding community.
The goals of the CTC theater arts training include igniting the imagination and creative processes of children, enabling their ability to grow both personally and artistically, empowering them to reach their personal creative potential, and build confidence. They also encourage them to work as a group and interact with others. They teach them how to use their bodies and their voices to say something, to entertain, and to build themselves as people and artists. This is why the CTC offers a variety of programs to address the needs of their young people and their entire community.
The CTC offers classes for home school students. They are designed to fit in with the schedules of these students and also to fit in with their educational needs. For Girl Scout troops, the CTC offers the opportunity to play theater games, take part in a number of classes and workshops, and earn brownie or scout patches. For their professional productions, they offer study guides that allow those viewing the play to have a great understanding and enjoyment of the production. The CTC engages with the community in so many different ways and is an asset to Minneapolis.
During the summer months, CTC offers half and full day camps for kids. These seasonal classes are a great way to introduce your child to the world of theater. Tuition fees vary according to the program and must be paid for at registration or payment arrangements can be made. Some need based scholarships are available and you can get an application for financial assistance. The CTC also offers residencies and workshops of varying lengths and types from which to choose.
The CTC offers chances to challenge and enchant children of all ages and backgrounds. For more information about the Children’s Theater Company, you can call 612-874-0500. If you want more information about the current productions or to purchase tickets to one of the shows, call 612-874-0400.
