The school was established in 1868, today there are approximately 14,000 students attending college there.  There are 1,700 faculty and staff members and students from 62 different countries.

There are 6 academic colleges: Allied Health and Nursing; Arts and Humanities; Business; Education; Science, Technology and Engineering; Social and Behavioral Sciences.  There are nearly 160 undergraduate programs of study, including 16 preprofessional courses.

The annual budget of the college is $200 million.  It is the top private fundraiser in the Minnesota State College and University System.
