This area of Minnesota has been settled by the Amish, starting around 1974 the "older order" of the Amish began moving into the area and now have approximately 100 families.  The Amish are a deeply religious, private people who have been able to resist the ways of modern society.  This are hosts 7 one room schools and 3 districts.

As you drive through the area of rolling hills be sure to keep your eyes open for the buggies and wagons used for transportation by the Amish.  You may see them tied up to hitching posts in town or see the farmers working in the fields with their team of horses.  You may see the children walking home from school or out doing chores or playing.  Their clothing may seem different to you, but they are happy with their lives and wish only to be respected, as they respect your privacy.

Enjoy the experience, see the shops where the Amish sell their goods, watch the woodworkers make fabulous furniture, taste their wonderful breads and pies and leave the area knowing that there truly are places where simplicity is the way of life.
