Forestville/Mystery Cave - Preston, Minnesota

Forestville/Mystery Cave - Preston, Minnesota
You will see natural wonders above and below ground. In the summer, beat the heat with a visit below ground. Explore the world of Mystery Cave with its stalactites, stalagmites and underground pools.

Park naturalists provide tours of the cave throughout the summer and on weekends in the spring and fall. The temperature stays at a constant 48 degrees Fahrenheit. Above ground, stop by Historic Forestville, a restored 1800s village operated by the Minnesota Historical Society (MHS).

Tour fees: Adults 13 and over - $10, Children 5-12 years - $6, Children under 5 years - Free. Fees include tax. Reminder: A state park vehicle permit is required. Cost is either $5 for a daily permit or $25 for an annual permit. Group tours also available in spring and fall by special arrangement with the park.

The Group Camp and campsites in horse campgrounds at this park now can be reserved by phone or online through the centralized reservation system. Group camp reservations can be made up to a year in advance. Horse campground campsites can be reserved from two to 90 days in advance. Call toll free 1-866-85PARKS or reserve online at www.stayatmnparks.com.

New for the horse area: Extensive remodeling of the horse area has been done over the past two seasons. A specific DAY USE area has now been set aside for day riders. All campsites have been numbered and each campsite has its own hitching rail, fire ring, and picnic table. Horse campers making reservations next spring should look carefully at the campground map and review specific site information to ensure your desired campsite meets your expectations. Parking in the electric loop is restricted to graveled spurs. No specific parking spurs exist for most non-electric sites at this time, so these sites offer more flexibility. Two group sites are available. A double site (#21) is available in the electric loop with a double wide parking spur for $38/night. Two hard sided campers and up to 12 persons may occupy this site. In the non-electric loop a triple site (#49) is available for $45/night and will accommodate three hard sided camping rigs with up to 18 people. These two sites are available as "walk-in" campsites and are not reservable. Several new individual non-electric sites are available to provide a more private camping experience. Most sites in the center of the non-electric loop are designed to provide a more social experience. Portable corrals and fencing will only be allowed in the disturbed areas around existing hitching rails.
