The experience of each person visiting the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) is always much more than they expected; whether their maiden visit or one of many. This “internationally significant” museum is nestled in Winona, MN along the banks of the majestic Mississippi River.
As its mission states; the MMAM truly enriches the human experience and elevates the spirit of everyone who visits. It boasts a wealth of offerings; including striking Marine Art (The Burrichter-Kierlin Marine Art Collection), impressive Folk Art (The Leo and Marilyn Smith Folk Art Collection) and a rare assembly of photographs and maps by Henry Peter Bosse. Also, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Dredge William A. Thompson will open for display in 2008, docked adjacent to the MMAM. Currently, an exhibit of Titanic is open until July 8, 2007! The magnificent art and maritime objects at the MMAM, span all periods of history and include regional, national and international maritime treasures!
The MMAM is not only a museum. It offers six acres of beautifully landscaped grounds to explore, a Shop and a Cafe! The Shop offers an array of items including clothing, books, toys, jewelry and more. The self-service Cafe is a place to revitalize; offering food and beverages to enjoy while seated inside or outdoors, featuring a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River!
A variety of self-guided and professionally guided tours are available. MMAM is also a great educational resource. Educators are urged to contact us for more information to enrich and enhance the young minds of all children. MMAM offers events, classes and programs varying from art classes to family storytelling time.
This magnificent museum began as a simple conversation about the fate of the dredge boat William A. Thompson, soon to be decommissioned. Now it has developed into a world class museum! The museum is located at 800 Riverview Drive, Winona, MN 55987. The Museum, Cafe and Shop hours are 10am-8pm on Tuesdays, 10am-5pm on Wednesdays through Saturdays and 11am-5pm on Sundays. It is closed on Mondays and all major holidays. One day admission fees are: Adults = $9.00. Students and seniors (65 and older) = $6.00. Children under three (3) are free and children ages 4-6 = $3.00 each. The one day admission is capped at $25.00 for families. Every Tuesday, all college students (with student ID) and children 17 and under are admitted free! We also offer one year memberships that are fully tax deductible! Member benefits include a personalized membership card, newsletters and email updates, admission for one full year, discounts at the museum shop and invitations to “member only” events. Membership rates are $25.00 for Seniors and Students, $70.00 for families and $40.00 for individuals (adults).
