Two Harbors Lighthouse Station - Duluth, Minnesota

Two Harbors Lighthouse Station - Duluth, Minnesota.jpgTwo Harbors Lighthouse Station - Duluth, Minnesota

This lighthouse was first lit on April 14, 1892. The Two Harbors Lighthouse was built to provide safe passage into the harbor and as a result Two Harbors became the major shipping point for the iron ore from the Mesabi Range in the early 1900’s.

Four buildings on the lighthouse site have artifacts in them that are open for visitors to view.  The Gog Signal building houses artifacts from the early fishing industry, things that you probably have never seen up close before.  There is also a gift shop.

The Assistant Keeper’s residence has exhibits on area ship wrecks, the development of Agate Bay and a late 1800’s residence exhibit.  The Keeper’s Quarters has been restored to the early 1900’s period and operates as a Bed and Breakfast; the attached light tower is open for visitors.

The pilothouse from the Frontenac shipwreck is also situated on the site for you to see.

The Two Harbors Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

It is now a  Bed and Breakfast.
