Minnesota Museum of Mining - Chisholm, Minnesota
If you have ever wondered about the world of iron ore mining, the hard work, the machinery and all that goes into bringing the ore to the consumer then you may truly enjoy a trip through this museum.
It gives you and opportunity to actually climb aboard equipment used to mine the Mesabi Range, the mining trucks, see the 1907 steam locomotive or tour replicas of an underground mine and visit a mining town.
In 1910 the Atlantic Steam Shovel was one of the fastest steam shovels ever made, there is one at the museum that you can sit in and imagine what it was like to actually dig into the hard earth to extract the ore. This type of steam shovel is the same type that was used to help dig the Panama Canal.

My father worked for Hanna Mining Co. in Hibbing during the 1950’s. While working there, he received a “safety award” of 6 water glasses. He gave them to me 35 years ago and I have stored them and move (and stored and moved) them trying to keep them safe.
Would you like them? Can I mail them to you? (PLEASE)
