Korkki Nordic Ski Center - Two Harbors, Minnesota

Korkki Nordic Ski Center.jpgKorkki Nordic Ski Center - Two Harbors, Minnesota

Dedicated to the way skiing used to be, this narrow ski trail is an old-fashioned, informal ski environment where volunteers help to keep the trails in good condition and donate money to use the trails.  The trails were originally cut out by Charlie Banks in the mid 1950’s. He groomed them with snowshoes and skis and began holding national-level races when the sport was still the dream of those truly devoted to the sport but held in obscurity by the general masses.

Now there is a non profit in charge of keeping the trails open ad handle the business end and machines and sophisticated grooming equipment used to keep the trails in shape.

This is the true old time single track skiing which feels more natural with more wilderness to experience. You will find a 10K ski trail with cutoffs to shorten the trip and have an easier ski trip at Korkki.  If you ski the long loop you will face the infamous "Big Hill," which as laid the best skiers on the snow.

There is no charge to ski the trails, but donations are encouraged.

There are buildings at the site for the rest periods or for gathering together before or after your skiing.

Directions: From Minnesota Highway 61 expressway between Duluth and Two Harbors turn north on Homestead Rd.  Take a left on to Korkki Rd, about 2.5 miles from Highway 61.  Look for the small sign on your right to Korkki Nordic, about one-half mile.
