The Character Challenge Course – Park Rapids, Minnesota
Here is an opportunity to test your skills while visiting the Park Rapids area. Are you a leader? Are you a team player? How brave are you? At the Character Challenge Course you can test all of those elements while having a blast doing it!
The site was established to work with corporate groups, schools and others in ways to change and alter all participants’ character and cause them to reach their fullest potential. You will use one of the rope courses to test your ability, either the low Team Initiatives Course or the high Aerial Adventure Complex.
The challenges consist of a variety of elements 30′-35′ in the air. There is a an issue of what is called “perceived risk” where participants experience real fear, but it is based on the perception that they are in danger, when in reality, the experience is quite safe. In addition, Character Challenge abides by the philosophy of “challenge by choice” which allows participants to choose what types of challenges they want. For instance, some may want the exhilaration of a 35′ free fall on our Giant Swing, while others simply want to assist by being a spotter. For some, leaping from a 30 foot pole is a heart-pounding adrenaline rush. For others, supporting their teammates by holding safety ropes is a challenge. You will have on safety harnesses so you won’t get hurt if you miss. The safety practices of the owners is geared to making sure you have fun without the risk of becoming injured so don’t be afraid to give it a try.
There are a series of interconnected platforms high in the trees. Just picture yourself going from one tree to another without ever touching the ground (although you will be on the platforms). If height scares you this may be a real test of your courage, or it may be just more than you want. If that is the case then you may want to chose the low course that focuses on team-building skills, problem solving and leadership development. Here you won’t be that far off the ground but you will still need your talents and skills to travois the course.
This is an opportunity to explore your inner strength, to check your abilities against the elements of height and judgment. What a fun way to spend a day!
The course is located adjacent to Eagle Beach Resort so you can stay the night or longer if you choose. The resort features kayaks, canoes, volleyball, tennis, basketball, shuffleboard courts, and a heated swimming pool.
The Character Challenge Course is brand new, opening in August of 2010 so you can try the course and then go home and tell all of your friends about it and see if they have the courage to take the Challenge!
The developers and owners of this adventure are Travis Guida and his wife, Sarah Coumbe-Guida. Both are skilled educators that work in the Minnesota school system.
